\r\nLegendary grindcore trailblazers BRUTAL TRUTH triumphantly return after 10 plus years with Evolution through Revolution, delivering yet another classic in the band’s legacy of indispensable records. BRUTAL TRUTH nearly razes the genre they helped pioneer by setting another high water mark for grindcore to-come. The albums pure and vital hybrid of ear-shredding extremes virtually explodes out of the speakers with the urgency of the times. Simply stated, Evolution through Revolution is BRUTAL TRUTH at the height of its powers. Metalzone Got the chance to interview the band and this is what they had to say:
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: The new album is really amazing. How is it going around the word? Sales?
\r\nBrutal Truth:
Thanks very much! We are very proud of our new album! I don’t know how it is selling, these days of course a lot of people just go to torrent sites and download it for free! But the reaction from the world-wide grindcore scene has been very positive!
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: Why did it take you so long to release an album? (11 years?)
\r\nBrutal Truth
: We were actually broken up for 8 years from ’98 to ’06, there were personal problems in the band that forced us to stop, but those problems have been resolved now.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: Are there any touring plans? Do they include Greece?
\r\nBrutal Truth:
Right now we are mostly going to do festivals like Summer Blast (Germany), Hellfest (France), Brutal Assault (Czech Republic) and Party San (Germany). We do have some shows around the first two festivals I mentioned in Italy. Spain and Switzerland, but unfortunately there are no plans to come to Greece at the moment…
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: What’s your opinion on modern Grindcore scene?
\r\nBrutal Truth
: Strong, healthy, diverse. Grindcore has been going continually since 1987 and today’s scene has much variety, you still have social/political bands like Agothacles from Belgium, and then you have these crazy bands from Czech Republic like Jig-ai and Pigsty that have very extreme vocals, crazy stuff from Sweden like the almighty Birdflesh, and great American bands like Kill The Client.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone:  Apart from Grindcore what are your main influences? What music do you listen to? Can you name a few of your favourite bands?
\r\nBrutal Truth
: The bands I listen to at home do not have a direct influence on Brutal Truth, when we write music, it just comes out of our twisted minds, haha! I like black metal, classic metal, classic rock, old hardcore, and old death metal.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: Recently ACDC gave their first ever show in Greece and it was a once in a lifetime experience for us. What is your opinion about these Masters Of Rock?
\r\nBrutal Truth
: AC/DC is a great band! They are like the punk rock of classic rock, they keep it simple and heavy and they never disappoint. I prefer the older stuff with Bon Scott to be honest.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone:  Do you think there’s a difference between 70s rock, 80s metal and today? What is your opinion on that?
\r\nBrutal Truth:
Naturally there are major differences in the styles of music you mention, but there is the same theme- you have the originators (Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Metallica, Discharge, Napalm Death, Darkthrone, etc.) and then the bands who take these influences and put their own original spin on it. Without Napalm Death there would be no Brutal Truth, for example, but then we took it to the next level.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: What do you think are the criteria record labels choose bands they sign and what is your point of view on the matter?
\r\nBrutal Truth:
Labels look for bands that have a unique sound (not always haha) and are willing to tour to promote their releases. I think labels should concentrate more on original bands but I know this can be very difficult, but it’s stupid when an ad for a band says “for fans of Meshuggah and Cryptopsy”.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone:  What advice would you give a young metalhead who is trying to form a band?
\r\nBrutal Truth:
Try to be unique and original. It’s OK to have influences that inspire you, but try to inject your own style into your music. Also, be prepared to deal with the business of dealing with labels and be ready to promote yourself on the internet with myspace, etc.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: What are the future plans of the band?
\r\nBrutal Truth:
Right now just the festivals and shows that I mentioned…
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: What message would you send to your fans in Greece?
\r\nBrutal Truth:
Thanks so much to all the Greek grindcore maniacs for supporting Brutal Truth, and hopefully we can finally make it to your country to grind you into dust! Hey Harry, bring us over!!
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: Over the last few year there have been some debate on legalizing the use of cannabis in Greece. What message would you send to the users and on the governments around the world on the matter?
\r\nBrutal Truth:
Cannabis is less dangerous than alcohol, and if it were legalized and taxed by the governments, it would help countries financially. It is not for everyone, but it should be an option, plus many doctors have agreed that is a natural painkiller.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: Do you think that the change of government in the states from BUSH to OBAMA is really a change?
\r\nBrutal Truth:
Absolutely. Obama has a much more sensible and intelligent approach to governing and you will soon see that America will no longer be hated by the rest of the world. Today (4/6/09) he will make a speech to the Muslim world in Egypt to explain that America is not the enemy of Muslims, only the extremists like Al-Queda. George Bush would NEVER do this!!
