KAAMOS

Well, first of all I want to congratulate you cause I think that you are one of the True Death Metal bands nowadays without keyboards and electronic elements (like the new bands from Sweden), without clean vocals and melodic or even melancholic elements in your music. No melodies, only hate and True Death Metal feeling. How do you feel that you are in a band like Kaamos?
\r\n
Well, I don’t know what it’s like not being in Kaamos. But I am very pleased with our efforts so far \r\n

\r\n \r\n

\r\n

\r\nWhat’s the response to your new album Lucifer Rising? Are you happy with the final result? Personally, I almost fell in love with that album and it’s pretty hard not to listen to it every single day...
\r\nI am very pleased with the result of Lucifer Rising. I think we took the step that we needed to do and the sound on the album suits our vision perfectly. And the lay-out I think does nothing less then elevating the album one step further. The response to the album has been really good. And I am surprised that there’s actually so many still that appreciate this kind of DEATH metal.\r\n

\r\n

\r\nWhen Kaamos is working on new material, who is the main song writer etc? How are you building up new songs?
\r\nThis differs, but as a general note I’d say it is the whole of Kaamos. Sometimes I provide 90% of the music for a song, and sometimes I provide 10%. We usually have ideas, riffs, that we worked with at home and then present at the rehearsal. And then we arrange, re-write, come up with new ideas etc. And we still throw 90% of what we try out.\r\n

\r\n

\r\nDo you have ideas for a new album or it’s very early to talk about it?
\r\nYes and no. We always have ideas that we try out and see where they lead us. But nothing that is solid and thought of for a new album. Which, as you point out as well, is too early to talk about. At this moment we have 1 new song that we feel so pleased with that it can end up on an album. \r\n

\r\n

\r\nI saw at your website that you are going to re-release "Kaamos" and "Lucifer Rising" in 10" vinyls, as well as the Curse Of Aeons demo in limited edition copies. Could you please tell us about that?
\r\nThe Curse of Aeons 10” has been out for quite some time now through Nuclear Winter. And that was an old idea to press it as a 10” that finally manifested. The debut album was just recently released and limited to 500 copies. And after a month Imperium Productions (who has made the license deal with Candlelight) had less then a 100 copies left. So it might be sold out by now. Lucifer Rising is still to be released during the late autumn early winter. So that one we still await. But all vinyl editions have been really professionally made and for me as a collector they are very treasured releases. \r\n

\r\n

\r\nIn my view, almost all of the Swedish bands plays "Melodic Death Metal". How hard is for a band like Kaamos to survive in the music business? You play music just because you feel it, or you play in order to be famous and to earn money through it?
\r\nIt is not hard to survive if you have your will set on doing it. But true that there isn’t too much support for any bands that don’t adapt to a current trend. But they also fade with them. We play this music because for us there is no other. If we wanted to earn money we wouldn’t sound like we do that’s for sure. \r\n

\r\n

\r\nI’ve heard many things concerning your music. Some people think that you are a band with main influences Grave and Entombed. Others say that your sound is like Grotesque. What do you think?
\r\nI think that people know our references and thus quote us when talking or describing us. I am for example more influenced by Grotesque than Grave and Entombed. But then on the other hand all of them are traditional DEATH metal outfits. I do not have the distance to Kaamos in order to view us objectively so I can’t really give you a proper answer on this. But personally I’d say that we sound like Kaamos. But we are traditional DEATH metal. \r\n

\r\n

\r\nIs there something different in the band from the day you started till now?
\r\nYes and no. I mean, we are still the same band that rehearse and still do our thing as we once decided when starting out. But we have released 2 albums and gained some form of recognition for our work. And that is what is different mainly. \r\n

\r\n

\r\nWhat means the name of the band?
\r\nThe word Kaamos is a Finnish one and it can be translated as Darkness.\r\n

\r\n

\r\nFinally, I want you to tell me what happened with the Greek concerts in Patra and Athens on September. Will you play later in Greece and if yes, do you know exactly the dates?
\r\nWe ran into some hassle with the dates, and while figuring out what to do we received another offer to play Hellas that suited us better. So we decided to go for that one instead of the original ones that were for September first, and then rescheduled for October. At this time there are no fixed dates but as soon as there is they will be posted on our homepage. But rest assured for we will come…\r\n

\r\n

\r\nThank you very much for your time Konstantin. You know, that you have many fans here in Greece, so if you want to send them a message, you can do it now... Cheers!
\r\nWe will be seeing you when we come down for some Hellish Massacre. NOX EST LVX!\r\n
