Ahab - The Divinity of Oceans

Ahab - The Divinity of Oceans

The second full length release by this Funeral Doom outfit from Germany has been released a couple of days ago, through Napalm Records, just as their first LP “The Call of the Wretched Sea” in 2006.
\r\nThis second LP is entitled “The Divinity of Oceans” and Ahab seems to continue this “Nautic Doom Metal” of theirs from musical and lyrical point of view just like their first album. The main characteristic of the band, the extra down tempo music is once again present as well as the clean and brutal vocals of Daniel Droste that recently took the place of the previous vocalist Stephan Adolph and the melodic guitar lines and riffing of Christian /Daniel. The keyboards make their presence also in this album along with Ahab’s long length tracks, something in which we are used to by these Germans.
\r\nThe very good doom metal of Ahab with the mid – tempo Morbid Angel alike outbursts and the acoustic parts Ala My Dying Bride / Anathema (of the early days) passages contribute to make another well structured and well composed Ahab album. My personal opinion is that “The Divinity of Oceans” is less chaotic than their first album, something that maybe will work as boomerang for the band. Maybe the replacement of Sthepan by Daniel caused this, or it is just my imagination…
