Benighted - Asylum Cave

Benighted - Asylum Cave

\r\n Fresh stuff! These are the first words that come to my mind when I listen to Benighted’s new material. It’s arguably remarkable that after so many years(13) of releasing music these guys manage to sound fresh and up to date. Perhaps the extreme metal spectrum needs bands like this to keep its brutal offerings alive and kicking through the years.

\r\n Benighted’s latest album is what brought them to the surface although it’s been 4 years since its release. "Icon" was a sheer devastator and "Asylum Cave" continues its destructive work with equall fury this year. Relentless blastbeats, ultra heavy megaton grooves and vocals coming from the sewers, the dungeon, the fridge, you name it. Psychotic death/grind with modern edges and shots that steer the energy from the first to the last song of the album. Guest vocalists Sven and Mike M.(Aborted and Devourment) add selling points although I believe Julien’s throat outruns them both easily. From deep growls to pig squeels and further more, this guy can deliver the letter.

\r\n Musically, the french outfit is as steady as a rock does not spend its energy on uncalled tech posing. This is mosh and run music, with a solid sound, turnovers, a sweet production and above all: you do not get tired listening to it over and over again. Some nicely put guitar leads are interesting and intriguing thus boosting the songs further more. You’ll also find samples and all sorts of electro shots that can make you lift the eyebrow every now and then. The work done make Asylum Cave sound so damn good, a most interesting suggestion in extreme metal for this year. Whoever digs Aborted, Burning Skies and stuff in between will mosh his brains out with this diamond. Give in and smash it all!\r\n
