Conan's First Date - Effigies

Conan's First Date - Effigies

\r\nΜan, you have to be super cool to name your band Conan’s First Date! I loved the idea of such an open minded approach to the band. I thought this would be a hardcore/punk outift with a mood for fun lyrical themes but once again, I was wrong. They, themselves, call their music death’n’roll!

\r\n My own opinion says these guys mix the Black Label Society style with death metal. Yes, I know it sounds somewhat peculiar and it took me sometime to come across the album with the eyebrow lifted to heights unimagined. But with an open minded view you may find pretty stuff in "Effigies". There’s plenty of boogie feeling and up tempo guitar work that makes you headbang while airguitar-ing in your living room. Musically the death metal vibe is not that strong. it is mostly desplayed on the vocals(partly) and perhaps the tuning along with some double bass drums but that’s as far as it goes.

\r\n Cool guitar solos help the beer consumption while you may even find cooler, trippy moments. Nothing gay friendly, just parts to cool it off a bit, an indication of the band’s high level! The "but" list will definitely include the production which could have been a lot better. It sounds like a demo,a  better mixing would lift the outcome a lot. What impressed me even more is that Conan’s First Date come from Hungary, a country not at the top of the metal cream. A good surprise to conclude! So, we’re on our toes for the next hit as this cd was only distributed to labels and zines.\r\n
