Darkness Ablaze - Shadowreign

Darkness Ablaze - Shadowreign

\r\n Second album for German newcomers Darkness Ablaze, an album that portrays them moving away from the Viking/black metal of their debut and making a big turn towards the melodic death sound. “Shadowreign” consists of 10 tracks which initially reminded me of influences from Rotting Christ or even Septic Flesh (well, their singer is of greek origin so why not?) but after giving the album a more close listening I came up to see that, despite the death and black canvas of their music, especially concerning the vocal part, there is a very developed sense of melody, while the keyboards play a major role in some of the songs, reminding me of Swedish The Project Hate MCMXMCIX. This can make it difficult for someone to label Darkness Ablaze in a particular genre, since they balance between the death/black genres on he one side and the modern metal sound on the other. This of course doesn’t mean that they lack of their own identity, since their songs have a certain quality and some of them van actually get stuck to your mind. Another big asset of this album is it’s very good production that allows us to understand how good musicians Darkness Ablaze are and that they definitely have something to say. All you friends of melodic dark sound should definitely check out this album, not to mention that I believe we have lots of good things to expect from these guys in the future.
