Deus Inversus - Mastery Over The World

Deus Inversus - Mastery Over The World

\r\n

\r\n  Deus Inversus exist since 1999 but this is\r\nonly their second release.  They tread\r\nquite successfully on Florida Death Metal paths.\r\n

\r\n

\r\n  Opening track “Mastery Over The World” makes\r\nit clear that Deicide is definitely an influence here.  Unholy themes, diabolical riffs, aggressive\r\nrhythm section and low growling vocals are composing the scenery for the\r\nGermans.  On “Call Me The Devil” I\r\nspotted Morbid Angel influences among others. \r\n“Beast In Sight”, “Endless Path” and “Black Death” continue on the same\r\nforms, without introducing anything fresh. \r\nSome melodic leads here and there manage to catch the attention.  “Goatpriest” is a short acoustic break and\r\nthe best is yet to follow!  “Down The Acheron”\r\nis a kickass song with a wicked bass line and so is “Funeral Of God”.  “Unholy War”, the final full track of the\r\nalbum finds the German band at its best. \r\nKiller song with excellent guitar ideas, it is definitely a highlight.\r\n

\r\n

\r\n  The ambient instrumental outro “Into The Abyss”,\r\ngave me the chance to consider the facts for a couple of minutes.  One fact is that this release by Deus Inversus\r\ncontains three excellent tracks and at least three more good ones.  On the one hand it seems that technically\r\nthey’re more than adequate and the production and sound is fine.  I really enjoyed the bass parts that are\r\nalways present throughout the album and the down-tuned guitars have a cool\r\ngrazing tone.  The vocals stand their ground\r\nand the drum parts are decent with no surprises whatsoever.  On the other hand though, there is a lack of\r\noriginality and a tension to follow certain forms.  As a result, it is difficult to tell some\r\nsongs apart and I believe they should work on this.\r\n

\r\n

\r\n  To sum up, I find the pros more than the cons\r\nbut the final judgment is yours.  As for\r\nme, I was adequately entertained by their blasphemous death metal during the\r\nforty six minutes that “Mastery Over The World” lasts.  If Deicide, Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse and\r\nObituary are high on your favorites list, then be my guest and give a chance to\r\ntheir sinful spawn that is Deus Inversus.\r\n
