DOTMA - Dances With The Shadows

Dotma (a.k.a. Dragons Of The Middle Age) is another female fronted gothic metal band with all the cliché of the genre. Heavy riffing, lyrical themes taken from medieval tales, dreamy melodies and symphonic orchestration. Johanna Lesonen’s voice has a unique color as well as dynamics but she doesn’t seem to avoid the comparison with “Nightwish or “Within Temptation”, then again that might not be her purpose. “Dances with the shadows” is a 3 track promo cd paving the way for the upcoming debut full length album that is recorded as I’m typing these lines and will be out at the beginning of the new year. Here we have a very impressive work not only in the production but also in the compositions themselves, something that shows the bands composing and performing abilities as well as their professionalism (since this is a self financed release). So we’re waiting for the release of their debut to have a more accurate opinion.
