Emergency Gate - The Nemesis Construct

\r\nΗow bad can a bad album cover affect me? Very, VERY bad. And by staring at this 80’s styled face watching at me I had the first slap. And that is something that hit me again after the first hearing of Emergency Gate’s cd. A band we saw opening for Kreator a couple of years ago, a performance that didn’t even touch the average. Until then I was unaware of their very existence so when the promo came I didn’t exactly burst into tears of joy...

\r\n So, when listening to "The Nemesis Construct" one thing instantly came to mind: Natural Born Chaos. Yes, this album wants to be Soilwork in Soilwork’s place. Even the sound is soooo damn similar that makes you wonder with some peoples’ nerve. Modern metal with melodic choruses, cut guitars, solos and every part of the known med period Soilwork recipe. Everything is here in large quantities. Perhaps(...) Emergency Gate are hoping in some kind of breakthrough, perhaps they’re just doing their best but the thing is, you need a voice like Strid’s to go up there, not that Matthias is bad. On the contrary...

\r\n And this is where I have to confess my sins. After the second and a third listeing session the album started growing inside me. Not that I went nuts or something but it started working its way inside and passed on a good mood. This is something peculiar cuz I was so in the mood to get bad and start giving the worst. I have to admit that despite the fact EG tried to make a radio friendly album full of hits, the result is a good soundtrack for a ride with the car on a sunny day. I will surely feed my cd player with "The Nemesis Construct" again and that is a credit by itself.

\r\n I really have no idea how far can this band go concidering this is their fourth album and still being without their own identity. Still, I will keep my eyes open to see if their next step is one closer to what we call musical personality. Until then whoever is into stuff like Blinded Colony and Soilwork of course should give them a try.\r\n
