Forgotten Suns - Revelations

Here we’ve got the new EP from the progsters Forgotten Suns. “Revelations” includes 5 remixed tracks most of them previously released. The album begins with the remix of “Doppelgauger” a track taken from the “Innergy” album. In my opinion is a very good song as is “Phenotype”, the track that follows, that mixes powerful melodies with skillful performance in a very heavy way creating a pure progressive masterpiece, something that most of the bands out there strive in vain to achieve. “Pinpoints” is a very nice song, though simple in structure while the ballad-like “The Hill” that’s coming next slows things down a bit giving a variety of sound to the whole EP. The four tracks mentioned before, I think serve as a prologue of what’s going to happen with “Betrayed”, a very interesting and melodic composition taken from their first album “Fiction Edge”. I would dare saying that as a whole the sound as well as the compositions of this EP reminded me a lot of Dream Theater. Personally I’m ok with that but I think that they have to get rid of their obsession with Dream Theater and the like, in order to give way to their own music development. They seem to have the skill to do it. So if you are to buy this one, just don’t expect to listen to something groundbreaking, same old same old.
