Galar - Τil Alle Heimsens Endar

Galar - Τil Alle Heimsens Endar

\r\nSecond album for Galar, although it’s the first time I come in contact with their music. It’s a folk/black metal band in the vein of old In The Woods, although I stil may be misguiding.. The album is run by a variety of moods, epic guitar melodies but also tunes from natural organs such as cello, viola etc. Tunes that try to redirect the listener from the sepia first impression of its wonderful, minimalistic cover. But do they manage to do so?
\r\n The band has invested a lot on melodies, whether they are on vocals or instruments. And they do so through long tracks that try to make us walk in the forest with them but I do feel like they loose it on the journey there. Everything is equally channeled: Speed, brutality, grimness, multi vocal parts. But the melodic parts are kind of shallow and without the necessary hooks to grab you and make you press the play button again. On the other hand, the black metal parts are where they should be, underlayed by equally ferocious blasts. I listened to the album over and over again to see what does not feel right within me..and again I came to the same conclusion: the inspiration lacking water boiled melos.
\r\n Lyrically "Τil Alle Heimsens Endar" is a concept album with lyrics writen and sung in their native language(Norwegian). In the booklet enclosed are introductory notes explaining the concept so anyone interested should find it interesting the least to say. In total we have an album that is not bad but neither it is good. Fans of this specific genre will find what they’re looking for and will give it the proper attention. The rest of us wil probably not even look back..\r\n
