Glitterting - Landkjenning

\r\nGlittertind play folk metal. And when I say folk I surely do not mean pagan black, folk black or anything in between. For some strange reason it has become a habbit confusing those genres but the thing here is quite clear. A glance at the album cover is enough.

\r\n The dear norwegians have seized the primal feeling of their native folklore and cherish melody as a god. Melodies that come from all sorts of instruments, thus giving a different touch to each song. And this is where I place my objection..guitars play a secondary role in the band’s idiocracy. I couldn’t remember a single riff after the album was over. The lead parts are all given to..everywhere BUT the guitars. Having a clearly underlaying carpet role the producer also managed to "hide" them in the mixing by putting them behind everything else. They deliver good songs, well structured but the "metal" part is somehow left aside.

\r\n Another thing that bothered me is the flow of Landkjenning(just try to pronounce that word!). It comes in a rather weak way as they have placed the album’s 2 most mediocre songs right in the beginning, while the rest comes along much much better. I’m not sure this serves their lyrical themes best but is does give a bitter impression to my ears. Soundwise, like I said, the guitars are laid back(kind looses strength this way) although the overall sound is very clear. The vocals are melodic, polyphonic in parts, all very well performed. The language might seem peculiar too(norwegian) to the untrained ear but further attention will pay off.
\r\n
\r\n I’m not so sure what exactly I’ll keep out of this, definitely some good melodies, moving in happy, trippy or occasionally sad mood. If you can keep an open mind long enough you’ll find enough music food to feed your soul. From then on it all depends on the listener..\r\n
