IN GRIEF - Deserted Soul

“Deserted Soul” is In Grief’s debut album and musically could be labeled progressive death metal having all the elements that could characterize an album as such. The truth is that lately this music genre is becoming more and more popular especially in the Scandinavian countries making it extremely difficult for some bands to really stand out offering something new to the genre. Something never heard before. In Grief are not the exception here but this doesn’t mean that they don’t have some really good compositions. Musically the will remind you a combination of Dark Tranquility and early Crematory while the sci-fi sounding keys along with raw guitar shredding strongly reminded me of Evergrey!
\r\nVocals are mostly death metal growls though in some parts they switch to clean. Everything sound ok here (like in most of the new releases..) the production, performances, instrumentation …everything is as they supposed to be but they don’t have something that would stuck in your head from the first listening. Something that would really blow your mind. After all I think that’s the only thing that counts.
\r\nThose familiar with the sound should definitely check them out as they seem to have potential for further development along with some good ideas. Maybe on the next album they will surprise us. Who knows?
