Pest - Rest In Morbid Darkness

\r\nWell, this band has always evoked a sympathetic feeling in me not only because they are so similar with my favorite Dark Throne (of their early days) but because their music is truly engaging, not so much technically as emotionally, forcefully and above all aggressively making once again a loud statement to the black metal community that great black metal has nothing to do with overdosed keyboard melodies or female vocals. It’s only infernal, blasphemous and primitive. So, when their new release dropped into my hands I was more than thrilled as you can imagine. Yes, Necro and his fellow bandmate Equimanthorn are back with another demonic, ear-bleeding album straight from the depths of the pit. From the very first notes of the album I got possessed by the beast called "Rest In Morbid Darkness". An album fortified by old school, unholy black metal and bolstered with killer riffage and vocals inflamed with enragement and malice. Of course the guys are Swedish but they are more close to the Norwegian black metal formula with a slight Swedish touch. The sound is once again raw and filthy with razor-sharp guitars, fast and aggressive but always with the misanthropic mid-tempo moments, a sufficient amount of blast beats and simplistic thumping drums and Necro’s vocals full of hatred and unleashed wrath. All 9 tracks are characterized by simple riffs, galloping rhythms and chaotic aggression and above all a grim production that certainly gives this album a very raw and dark atmosphere. Don’t look for anything polished or innovating or exceptional for that matter in this release. Pest is not yearning for the creation of the next revolutionary steps in the genre, they don’t want to develop the style into any new or prototype direction, they just spread out their hellish fury through old-school, primitive and nihilistic savagery for all those who still love the old pure black metal patterns and ignore the sweet-tongue sirens of modern evolution. \r\n
