For Selena And Sin - Primrose Path

\r\nSeems that most Finnish bands are kind of “expert” when it comes to dark/melodic metal sound, is like a second nature to them so when they decide to take advantage of it commercially, they are able to write first class radio-friendly songs as easy as drinking booze!
\r\nFor Selena And Sin are such a case of a band. Atmospheric female fronted Gothic metal might be “worn” and “overused” as a genre, and there might be hundreds of bands out there claiming a piece of success, that’s totally true, on the other hand there are few those who have decent compositions on their releases and even fewer those with the ability, or should I say gift, to write songs bound to be hits. “Primrose path” is such an album, full of mind blowing songs, something extremely rare for a new band regardless of the genre that they serve. The songs themselves have something mesmerizing, they are composed in such a way that they immediately stuck in your brain even if you’re not a Gothic metal fan at all. The melodies are so “catchy” and intense that we could easily label the genre as “pop-metal” (well that’s a strange term…but believe me, I’ve seen worse.) “Countdown to the stars” which is the opening track as well as “Bring Me The Sun”, the track that follows are songs that could easily emerge on the charts, challenging songs of HIM or Within Temptation, something like that surely makes “For Selena And Sin” a force to reckon, while many of you would catch yourself singing the tunes of “Broken Mirror” or “Psycho Lover” when nobody’s around (well you know what I mean..). In addition there are some more atmospheric songs like “Horst” or “Summer Hill” that give a more dark touch to the whole album in order to bring out the Goth elements of the band’s music something that becomes obvious with Annika’s singing style. She uses her own approach in the way she sings avoiding the excessive use of “operatic style” copying most of the female vocalists of the genre. If you’ll listen to the Kylie Minogue’s cover “Confide In Me” you’ll know exactly what I am talking about. Power, melody as well as dark atmosphere combined equally in the most “radio friendly” way make “Primrose Path” an album you can’t ignore, whether you’re into the genre or not.\r\n
