Tarantula - Spiral Of Fear

Tarantula - Spiral Of Fear

You may not be aware of it but Tarantula is one of the oldest and quite famous bands from Portugal, serving the genre of Heavy/Power metal for almost 20 years now. With the release of their 8th studio album “Spiral Of Fear” they don’t seem to change their long followed course. In fact what we’ve got here is another interesting release yet less powerful than their previews album called “Metalmorphosis” which was full of clichés but yet overflowing with melody and power!
\r\nThe same recipe is followed on this one too but the results are not the same, though you can find some quite catchy compositions like “Among Us” and “Hope” which are the album’s slower and more emotional songs.
\r\nSpeaking of the same recipe I was referring to the album as a whole, though there are some parts in this that really caught my attention. Take the sound for example. Tarantula here seem to have developed a more modern approach to the guitar sound as well as some really dark melodies filling their songs. My personal opinion is that “Spiral Of Fear” might be a good album introducing new elements but at the same time loses some of its former glory by doing exactly that! I mean that, trying to be different and giving a more modern sound to their songs, Tarantula’s sound tends to be “flat” and eventually uninteresting.
\r\nHowever, “Spiral Of Fear” is an interesting release from a very skillful band. I am sure that their fans will like this one as well. Those of you not familiar with the band, just pick up their previews albums.
