Thunderstorm - Nero Enigma

Thunderstorm - Nero Enigma

The Italian doom metal outfit Tunderstorm happens to be one of my favorite bands out there and immediately after I received the promo copy of their newest album I got the urge to listen to it over and over again just to enjoy another release from Fabio and co.
\r\nThree years have already passed since their latest album “As We Die Alone” and the riffing machine of Fabio is once active, keeping the same good old patterns of the previous albums, remaining a great doom metal band but also exploring and the dark heavy progressive identity of the band, that have always been there.
\r\nSo, “Nero Enigma” lyrically deals with what the Italians call “giallo” which is nothing more than what is widely known as “crime fiction” or “mystery” literature a movement that is popular in Italian classic cinema with directors / writers like Mario Bava (R.I.P. Maestro) and Dario Argento among others. So through the lyrical content of the album we travel to such a mysterious story that you are about to solve…if you can! Back to the music now, I have to admit that I really left speechless with Omar Roncall bass, whose bass lines on specific tracks like “Shallow” steals the show and put the listener to a really mesmerized mood and with the help of Fabio’s guitars and vocals produce a great atmosphere.
\r\nClosing this review I must admit that I consider “Nero Enigma” as one of the best outputs that these Italian trio ever produced, since on this one the band sounds so tight and most important they sound so mature regarding their compositions, keeping all of their previous elements but the seem to make a step forward using more heavy metal elements but, I insist on repeating that they did not no loose their trademark sound at all!
