WIZARD - ..Of Wariwulfs And Bluotvarwes

I really can’t tell why I wasn’t impressed by the new Wizard album. It’s strange since Wizard’s ninth release with the strange title “Of Wariwulfs And Bluotvarwes” seems to have all it takes to make an album sound really nice. Here we have powerful songs and a really bombastic production along with some of the best riffs the band ever recorded. I think that the fact that I wasn’t at all impressed is due to the release of their previous epic “Thor” which was released 2 years ago. As you can understand the expectations after such an album were rather great. Unfortunately “Of Wariwulfs…” is not even close to the greatness of its predecessor. Of course there are some pretty powerful songs like the thunderous title track that breaks through and the mid-tempo “Messenger Of Death” as well as “Taste Of Fear” with its stunning chorus but despite that the album doesn’t meet the standards that they themselves have set 2 years ago, having as a result for this one to be regarded as another mediocre power metal album.
\r\nWizard’s fans are surely to check this one out and many of them might actually like it (sadly I can’t avoid comparing it with “Thor”). Those of you who are into epic Heavy/power metal yet not familiar with the band, better check out their previous release.
