Xerión - Cantares das loitas esquecidas

\r\nΑfter several demos and split releases the spanish folk/black metallers with the strange name offer another round of their unique style. Moving on underground soil, they don’t seem to break any sweat about "fame", only for creative expression and their own satisfaction. At least that comes to mind after seeing how often/seldom they release something. Only second full length after 4 demos and 7 splits!

\r\n But this is not the case here, let’s talk about music. Setting a black metal fountain, with speed varying so that the listened does not get tired, lots of folk passings, acoustic elements and brutality chained to the ground. It’s a fact: "Cantares das loitas esquecidas" is not going to send Xerion sky high but it’s a work of art with a specific vision and a settled sense of aesthetics. There is good flow and rhythm, combined with long song durations that give an idea of majestic proportions. Despite the bad taste left by the cover(made me think this is a goth band!) the content will satisfy the daring listener. A nice surprise is Morte na iauga, a song that could go under the tag "black metal ballad", filled with emotion and atmosphere. The vocals are walking the known path, but on a good level..

\r\n The folk "strokes" on the canvas manage to give an alternate scent, colouring the audiospace and giving character to Xerion’s music. But what sets things back is the production, without it being so bad, it doesn’t give the boost needed. Something on the sound of the drums, something on the guitars, it should have been a bit heavier in order to raise the bar on this release. The band shows good taste though by including the video clip as a bonus for the track "Morte na iauga", with an experimental mood and that honours them.

\r\n Definitely a band worth checking out and following on its next steps, Xerion have the patience required, hopefully the audience does too.\r\n
