\r\n When a musician gets all the genres confused within him and the borders between them seem more and more blury the music he’ll create turns out to be an equally murky outcome. This is one of the biggest issues I always had with bands that are supposed to be enlisted in the extreme sound. At least in theory. So, when you’re supposed to be a death metal outfit and you riffing is heavymetal-ish nore screams, nore doublebass can save you. German act Buried In Black is not all that typical as they may not have a clearly death metal attitude, they do gain in groove attitude and a dirty sound though.

\r\n But all in all, I was not overwhelmed by their album. As hard as I tried by listening over and over again I was being kept back by their all too ordinary guitar work and the "I’ve heard this a million times" drumming. I think they sound more like a melodic death/thrash/heavy band, definitely not standing out of the crowd. After each break you would listen to this typical swedish riff acompanied by this Amon Amarth styled double bass mid tempo thing. Predictable enough and surely not the kind of thing to draw your attention. The only song I could mesmerize is the six minute "Godseed", that had the right feeling, the mood that captured the ear. Also the last song on the album, "One Ate Seven" with the strange title had its moment of glory. But from there on, I think "Black Death" is doomed to oblivion, history will prove it.

\r\n I don’t want to be anfair though, the truth is the band is not terrible or something. It’s just that in to my mind, whatever is mediocre or "not that good" falls below the average eventually because let’s face it: it’s 2011 and the music industry is flooded with bands. If the guys in Buried In Black are doing this to express themselves and just to feel good about it it’s fine by me. And at the end of the day, you’re not obliged to make the difference. It is however important to create music that will withstand the passing of time and I believe nobody will still remember this album after a year or so. Just my opinion.\r\n
