PESTILENCE - Resurrection Macabre
One of the albums that has impressed me the most is “Testimony of the Ancients” by the Dutch prog deathsters Pestilence, a band that left it’s mark back in the early 90’s and unfortunately disbanded back in 1994, after the release of the most ambitious release “Spheres”
\r\nSo After 16 years they do return with a new album but an old line up (despite the drummer). When I first heard about this release I ve been considering this as a really bad move to make, but after I saw the line up of the band and especially the return of Tony Choy on Bass, the man that played with Atheist and Cynic, I changed my mind and by the listening of “Horror Detox” on Pestilence myspace profile, I was convinced that “Resurrection Macabre” will be a Death metal opus, straight from the heart of the 90’s progressive death sound. While I was listening the album, I was sure that this is the 90’s and the “Testimony Of The Ancients” has been released only a few months before, and the album “spheres” has never been released at all (I consider “Spheres” a great album but too “progressive” for 1993.)
\r\nThe album has it all, the classic, untouched by the time voice of Patric Mameli, the prog riffing of Mameli / Uterwijk, the unique playing of Tony Choy and the blasts of the new member on drums, Peter Wildoer. All of the compositions are in the classic Pestilence form, with blast beats and progressive parts.
\r\nIn conclusion, this is the death metal holocaust of today with the unique sound and technical abilities of Pestilence…
\r\nDon’t think anymore…just listen.
