Sandalinas - Fly To The Sun

Sandalinas - Fly To The Sun

\r\nA few days ago I received the second album of the Spanish band Sandalinas that came out at the beginning of 2008. Opening the booklet I was pleasantly surprised seeing that great names of the heae metal scene have collaborated in the album, names like Chris Caffery (Savatage), Andy Larocque (King Diamond ), Rick Altzi (AT VANCE), Patrik Johansson (YNGWIE MALMSTEEN), Mick Cervino (BLACKMORE’S NIGHT), Elias Holmild (DRAGONLAND), along with Sherinian (DREAM THEATER,KISS at the track “Seasons In The Sand”). Those collaborations are important enough to tempt your curiosity to listen to the album. Compared to their debut album that was a really nice record, I wasn’t that excited listening to “Fly To The Sun”. I think that guitarist and founding member of the group Jordi Sandalinas is a musician of great abilities and shouldn’t be compromised to mediocre compositions. Melodies (for those who seek them) are plenty but that’s not the point. I was listening closely to the songs and kept running into faint and not that interesting ideas. In opposition to the rhythm parts of the album, the solos were smart, completely bonded to the main body, played skillfully (since Jordi, Chris and Andy were responsible for them). As far as production and mixing are concerned, Andy Larocque is exclusively responsible (as he was for the first album) and so the result in this area is more than satisfying. To make the long story short, I wasn’t that excited listening to the album and to be honest I won’t miss listening to it in the next few months. But of course, the last say is yours…\r\n
