Star*Rats - Screw The Consequences

Star*Rats - Screw The Consequences

\r\nStarrats play heavy rock n’ roll with metal and punk influences" as the band states and they are completely right. And for those who aren’t aware of the band, Yes! You heard right! Returning with their third full length album after "Rebelution" of 2006, again, combining elements of punk, sleaze and metal Starrats try to make a difference following the well known US recipe of catchy choruses and riffs all gathered in an album filled with energy. Even though, their work can be at least characterised as respectable for a band with three full length album and gigs with Alice Cooper, Dokken, Skid Row, Magnum and many other, it isn’t able, yet, to make a significant difference. \r\n

\r\nFull of nasty attitude, Starrats will appeal to the fans of The Hellacopters and Backyard Babies with their way of playing. Catchy rock n’ roll mood, mostly fast tempo tracks all led by the voice and guitar playing of two pretty good musicians, Magnus on vocals and Post on guitar. However, their ambition to be raw n’ dirty collides with the album’s production which is excellent but erases most of Starrats’ who, instead of a heavy rock n roll group, sometimes sound like a us highschool pop rock band. This clean and shiny production by the well known and respected Chris Laney and Jan Elison deprives the band of their lust and power. The album, however, has some very good moments, that very few bands could make, such as "Who Cares", "I Could Die Here", "As I Stay" and "Another Tragedy" and these good moments make us forget, at times, the album’s negative aspects I previously mentioned or the poor cover on Bon Jovi’s "I’ll Be There For You" in punk version.\r\n

\r\n

\r\nOn the whole, fans of the genre will not be disappointed by Starrats third full length album "Screw The Consequences". They won’t be thrilled too, a respectable, professional work by an experienced band who know exactly what they’re doing and what they want from their work.  \r\n
