Gus Drax - In Search Of Perfection

\r\nDespite his young age, he is successful and has achieved a lot. During the last two years this very talented artist has joined BIOMECHANICAL and recently PARADOX too.
\r\nOn the year 2010, Gus is in search of perfection, through notes, melodies and solos and he creates an exceptional piece of work, which contains 9 instrumental compositions. Judging from the listener‘s point of view, I think that an instrumental album must be inspired by really great ideas to appeal to the audience. Well, I don’t recall many times in the past when I could remember the titles of the tracks, after listening to an instrumental album, far less would I push the replay button over and over again just right after the album was finished, just like I did now! It has plenty of feeling, energy, speed, magnificent melodies and musical themes; all these elements are essential, of course, when someone wants to listen to music rather than estimating the musician’s skills. After all, when it comes to Gus, it’s absolutely undoubtful that he is on a very high level.
\r\nChoosing Steve Smyth- ex NEVERMORE, FORBIDDEN, TESTAMENT- for a guest solo on the track “Hourglass” was a very clever choice in my opinion, because almost all of the rhythm guitars on the album are influenced by Jeff Loomis/Nevermore, so his input was just perfect. There are also influences from Petrucci, Malmsteen and Satriani. Last but not least, Bob Katsionis (Firewind, Outloud) is on the keyboards, so the result is guaranteed is this field, and Vasilis Liakos on the bass. I would prefer to hear natural drums, though, instead of programming.
\r\nI came up with a conclusion a couple of years ago when I attended this unforgettable live show of BIOMECHANICAL and now this cd justifies it: Gus is a really great musician! \r\n
