REVENGINE - Plan Your Escape

Maybe you should start planning your escape from this one. Revengine is a Finnish band and their EP “Plan your escape” is their first official release. The band formed back in 2007 and since then they had released 2 self –financed promo CD’s. Their style could be easily labeled as New Rock but then again, they have so many sludge/stoner elements that I think that the term Stoner Rock would suit them fine. Imagine the sound of “Sevendust” or even “Coldplay” with an overdose of “Down” and you’ll have a clear picture of how Revengine sound like. The compositions on this one have not much to say. In fact they sounded completely hollow and indifferent to me. They are well performed but I don’t think they have something to offer to the genre. Heavy guitars, mid tempo songs but no trace of inspiration. Some good ideas here and there don’t seem to save this EP from plunging into mediocrity. The guitarist/singer Antti Jokiranta sounds like Evergrey’s Tom Englund in some parts something that I find completely irrelevant with the Stoner rock they like to play. As for me…I already packed up!
