UNFATHOMABLE RUINATION - Federico Benini

\r\nBritish death metal newcomers Unfathomable Ruination are ready to show the world what they’re made of. Blasting death metal all the way! We contacted the band for further details...enjoy! \r\n

\r\n

\r\n \r\n

\r\n

\r\n- Hi guys, welcome to Metalzone.gr Give us a quick introduction about \r\nthe band so the readers will know who they’re dealing with!
\r\n
\r\nFederico- Hey \r\nman! Thank you for having us, we are honoured! Basically, we are a \r\nbrutal death metal band hailing from London. The band started with the \r\ncollaboration of Dan H. (Guitar) and Rob (Vocals) with the vision of \r\nstarting a band that combines ultra fast blast beats with technical, \r\nexperimental guitar and bass parts and ultra guttural vocals. They later\r\nrecruited Doug (Drums) and myself (Bass) to complete the lineup and \r\nrecord the self titled MCD. Rob then unfortunately had to quit the band\r\ndue to personal reasons and we recruited Daniel Neagoe to fill the empty \r\nvocalist slot. Since then, we have started gigging, first with a support \r\nslot for Cerebral Bore in London, then a mini European tour with Human \r\nParasite and Murder Intensions and for those gigs we added Geoffrey Bradley (also\r\nin Oblivionized and Fleshrot) to the ranks as a session live guitarist.\r\n
\r\n
\r\n- Cool, on the music part now, the MCD sounded killer in so \r\nmany aspects, how long have you been practicing/composing the songs? \r\nYou’re quite fresh to the scene right? Any past bands you guys played \r\nin?
\r\n
\r\n
\r\nFederico- Thanks a lot man, glad you liked it! As I was a "late entry" \r\nin the band I am not sure exactly when the composing and practicing \r\nstarted. However I think I do know that the band started early last year\r\nand everything progressed really fast. I was asked to join the band in \r\nlate June and straight away 2 weeks later, without even any proper band \r\nrehearsal recorded the MCD, the first proper band practice I had with \r\nthem was in August. So yes, you can say that we are fresh on the scene, \r\nand we are really happy with how things have been going for the short \r\ntime we have been around!
\r\n
\r\nAs for other bands and past bands, \r\npretty \r\nmuch all the members have other commitments at the same time as \r\nUnfathomable Ruination. The only member that at the moment has no other \r\nbands is Dan H. though he used to play in Fleshrot. Doug also plays in a\r\nDeath/Thrash band called ’Bloodshot Dawn’, I have my other band \r\n’Trifixion’ and Dan N. has his Doom project called ’Eye Of Solitude’. \r\nAlso, as I mentioned above our guitarist Geoff, our live session \r\nguitarist’s main\r\nbands are ’Oblivionized’ and ’Fleshrot’.\r\n

\r\n

\r\n \r\n

\r\n

\r\n- I love your sound. \r\nFast, tight and brutal. Which bands would you call your main influences?\r\nHave you been watching the development of death metal in the last few \r\nyears? Any bands you prefer?
\r\n
\r\nFederico- Again, thank you very much! \r\nOriginally I know that when he started composing, the main bands that \r\ninspired Dan H and Rob was Internal Suffering. So taking the element of \r\nsheer \r\nbrutality and ultra fast blasting from Internal Suffering and of course \r\nadding more influences from bands such as Disgorge (Us), Abysmal \r\nTorment, Death, Suffocation etc... He composed those three songs for the\r\nMCD. Since the release of this CD now, the band has a full line \r\nup and thus more people to throw in musical ideas, we have added more \r\ninfluences to our music that vary from Ulcerate to Gorgasm!
\r\n
\r\nWe are \r\nall huge death metal fans and pay close attention to all the new bands \r\nand development of older bands in the scene. I personally think that \r\nthere have been loads of killer new bands coming onto the scene in the \r\npast few years and this year alone there have been some releases that \r\nare fucking masterpieces, these in my opinion include the latest \r\nreleases from Gorgasm, Peshmerga, Anomalous, Cerebral Bore etc... just \r\nto mention a few. As for any bands that I prefer, I have so many bands \r\nthat I love and it is impossible for me to put them in any order, though\r\na few of my favorite death metal bands include: Severed Savior, \r\nVomitory and Wormed.
\r\n
\r\n- And how about non-metal influences? Are you open minded to "outsiders"?
\r\n
\r\nFederico- Of\r\nCourse! All of us are quite diverse in what music we listen to, and it \r\nis in no way only limited to metal. Personally, for me, I can say that \r\nsome of my main influences in playing bass and composing music in \r\ngeneral has come from 70s Progressive rock and Jazz Fusion. Dan H, \r\ncoming from Ecuador, has a huge Latin influence, and is a huge fan of \r\nLatin Jazz and Flamenco. Doug as well has a big Jazz/Funk/World Fusion influence in\r\nhis drumming, which you can really see . And finally, Dan N’s main \r\nnon-metal influence is Classical Music, though this is probably a lot \r\nmore noticeable in his Doom band.\r\n

\r\n

\r\n \r\n

\r\n

\r\n- What are you lyrical views? I don’t see the usual gore/splatters themes here...
\r\n
\r\nFederico- From,\r\nthe start, we did not want to be classified as just "another gore \r\nband". Not that I disrespect any of the bands who do use gore/splatter \r\nthemes, it just didn’t appeal to us. Instead, in the MCD, Rob adapted a \r\nmore apocalyptic concept. For example the first track on the MCD "Echoes\r\nOf Universal Futility" is about a belt of asteroids circling our solar \r\nsystem that sometimes get pulled out of orbit and there have been times \r\nin the history of the planet, where one of them has hit Earth, wiping \r\nout the entire species.
\r\n
\r\nHowever now that we have a new vocalist \r\nand lyrics writer, the themes may change and vary a bit on future \r\nreleases but always will have the same quality and technical standard.
\r\n
\r\n- Are there plans for a full length soon? Have you guys written new material and what should we expect from you?
\r\n
\r\n
\r\nFederico- Yes,\r\nwe are writing new material for a full length and are already playing \r\nsome of the new songs live. If all goes well, we should hopefully be \r\nentering the studio by early 2012 to record our debut album.
\r\n
\r\n- \r\nGigs. What’s going on the Unfathomable planet right now? Are you playing\r\nshows outside Britain? Any chance for a tour or a summer festival \r\nattack?

\r\n
\r\nFederico- For the moment we have been mainly focusing on putting \r\n100% into writing new material and thus haven’t had much time to look \r\nfor gigs yet. All the gigs we have done so far had been offered to us, \r\nand we are still really open to gig/tour offers. At the moment we only \r\nhave a few gigs in the UK organised, though hopefully during the \r\nremainder year, some new gigs/tours outside the UK will come up again!
\r\n
\r\n- Who would be the most fitting bands for Unfathomable Ruination to tour with. Ever thought about that?

\r\n
\r\nFederico- Can’t\r\nsay I ever did think about it hahaha, that’s a tough question... I \r\nwould just say any sick death metal band, as I mentioned earlier we did a\r\nmini euro tour with Human Parasite from France and Murder Intensions \r\nfrom Belgium which KILLED every night. The most important thing for me on a bill, is that its not\r\na bunch of bands that sound exactly the same and I thought that for \r\nthat tour it was a good combination as all 3 bands were quite different \r\none from the other. If I had to mention a few other bands that I think \r\nwould combine well on a bill with Unfathomable, they would probably be: \r\nUlcerate, Origin, Inveracity, Gorgasm and many more...\r\n

\r\n

\r\n \r\n

\r\n

\r\n- How are things in the UK brutal death metal scene? Any new bands emerging that we should pay attention too?
\r\n
\r\nFederico- Speaking\r\nhonestly, I would say that the scene has not been as good recently as \r\nit has been in past years. There seem to be less tours coming to the UK \r\nand generally less gigs being organised, and also good bands that have \r\nbeen going on for many years such as Introrectalgestation, Lordearon and\r\nEmbryonic Depravity have split up recently. However on the good side, \r\nthere seem to be quite a lot of up and coming as well as older bands \r\nthat seem to be doing quite well for themselves. The massive success \r\nthat Cerebral Bore are having at the moment is the best example and many\r\ngood bands are releasing albums and doing good shows and tours, some of\r\nthese include: Oblivionized, Basement Torture Killings, Bloodshot Dawn,\r\nTrifixion, Neuroma, Fleshrot, Scatorgy, Flayed Deciple, Amputated etc...
\r\n
\r\n- What are the plans for U.R. in the foreseeable future and how is the response so far? From both, press and the audience.
\r\n
\r\nFederico- As\r\ni said above man, right now, we are focusing on writing the album. As \r\nsoon as that’s done we will be putting more focus into touring and \r\ngigging. Hopefully by next year we will have an album to tour with and \r\ndo some sick tours with some sick bands! With the little that we’ve done\r\nso far, i.e. the MCD, mini tour and gig, the response we’ve been getting\r\nfrom both audience and press has been absolutely amazing! The crowds at\r\nall our gigs have been utterly insane and the reviews have been amazing\r\nas well! We are seriously very happy of how things are going!
\r\n
\r\n- That is all from me, I want to thank you for your time and the kick ass music you provide us with. Last words are yours:
\r\n
\r\n
\r\nFederico- Thanx a lot bro, its been an pleasure! Hopefully in the near future we’ll come and do some shows in Greece!
\r\nSTAY SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!\r\n
