DESTROPHY - Destrophy
\r\nWell, seems that Iowa is not all about Slipknot. Destrophy is a very nice suggestion for those who are into melodic Nu Metal. Their new album of these Americans is proving me right. Truth is that melodic Nu Metal or Metalcore (as is labeled) is not as popular as it was few years ago but there are still some bands releasing descent albums. The thing is that though “Destrophy” has many metalcore elements it sounds closer to classic heavy metal than to American metalcore. This has as a result for the band to sound more similar to bands like “Symphorce” or “Firewind” with an overdose of “Trivium” than to classic metalcore bands like “Hatebreed” or “God Forbid”. This i think is due to lack of death metal growls that most of the metalcore bands use as a trademark along eith the excessive use of melody in every track, especially on the choruses. The compositions here are over-melodic and surely have something to catch your attention. Personally the tracks that impressed me the most were “Reconnect” and “Send In The Wolves” which I consider some of the best tracks ever written when it comes to that genre. The mastermind behind all this is our fellow countryman and main man of the band Aris Mihalopoulos who has taken over almost everything by himself from guitar work to the cover artwork. Another example of a Greek releasing a decent album being abroad! That’s a very good work indeed. Friends of the genre should check this one out!
