Angel Blake - The Descended

Angel Blake - The Descended

\r\nAngel Blake is the group Marko Tervonen formed, after the split up of the Death Metal band , The Crown. After 2006’s self-titled debut, they strike back with this album called "The Descended". The most significant change of the line up, since "Angel Blake" cd, is the departure of Tony Jelencovich and the arrival of Tobias Jansson behind the mic. It is not easy to define in which genre the group belongs. I would probably say Heavy Metal, but with more melancholic and dark mood. I would describe their music as a mixture of Paradise Lost (Draconian Times), Sentenced and Danzig elements, fulfilled with a variety of vocals, from high pitched to more growly ones. The singer makes the band sound from powerful, to more melodic and from dark, to more heavy, due to his ability to change the style of his voice and his nearly theatrical (at moments) performance. This release is consisted of ten unequal tracks. Even if the opening is great with "Anywhere But Here" sparking and "Defenceless" following with it’s dark intro and heavy riffing, the continue is mediocre. Not so inspired songs, which are sometimes boring, with some very good ideas, though. Other interesting compositions would be, "When All The Lights Are Out" with good guitar riffing, followed by a catchy chorus and the ending track "You΄ll Never Need To Feel Again" a mid tempo song consisted of insane vocal lines and another great performance by Tobias Jansson. The production and the sounding of the album in general, are more than satisfying. Another thing that is worth to be
\r\nmentioned at this point is, the absence of electric bass and the use of Contrabass(!!) instead. To sum things up, here we deal with an above average, yet, nothing-special release. Fans of Paradise Lost and Sentenced will probably find in "The Descended" something to be happy about, but the rest will just find some "interesting moments".\r\n
