Essence - Lost in Violence
Essence - Lost in Violence
\r\nDenmark is a country I deeply respect, regardless the type of music exported each time. The musicians hailing from Denmark seem to know all about composing a good song, wether it’s death metal or a pop song. In the case of Essence, it’s all about thrash metal delivered in up tempo mood and a good taste for tasty, analogue sound! In fact, this is something the band is proud enough to mention in the booklet of their cd...
\r\n
\r\n ..And how can they not be proud when the sound they managed to pull out is amazingly heavy, clear, thick and sharp as a blade! So, as they themselves say it, they did not use any kind of digital technology mambo jumbo to record their debut. Instead, they went for the old traditional way with much attention to detail. But to leave technical matters behind, Essence’s music is a mixture of Metallica, Megadeth, etc based mostly on heaviness and groove and less on high speed massacre. In terms of songwriting the youngsters show potential with remarkable songs like "Oblivion" and "Unlimited Chaos" but from that part on, the album looks like it needs that extra something that will push it even further.
\r\n
\r\n This is one of those cases when you are full of enthousiasm and you want to praise the artist just from some hidden diamonds you heard in an album but it’s that same album in its entiety that kept you back from screaming. Not, that is sucks but it just lacks the "nitro ingredient" that would boost it miles away. Yet, the "disappointment" is of minor size and you do get the idea in the end, that these guys are able to bring forth some stuff that will remain worthy offerings on the altar of thrash metal. But for now, they have to find that ingedient in order to move on and deliver us from the vast desert of uninspired musicians that pop out of every corner these days. I have to admit, this album gets a high rate just because Essence pulled out the task of taking my mind away with that amazing song, "Oblivion". I thank them for that! Hope we’ll see them on tour!\r\n
