It’s amazing how mediocre vocals can literally massacre an otherwise good music result. Not that Forcentury’s vocalist sings wrong or anything, it’s just the boring performance makes you sigh with the thought: If only it was instrumental…
Here come the cool elements of the first Forcentury album “Vanguard”. These guys are actually good musicians and when mister Thunder isn’t singing we have the chance to hear some very interesting compositions, especial through the guitars where you’ll find a wide variety of riffs and solos, but still the whole is not all that dynamic. Those of you who are familiar with bands like Sonata Arctica and Symphony-X, imagine a combination of these two but more dull.
Beyond the good, the bad or the ugly of this album, I found the cover very impressive. If we ever make reviews for album covers, Vanguard will definitely get a better score.
