OSI - Blood

\r\nGavin Harrison, Porcupine Tree’s drummer, joins the fellowship of Kevin Moore and Jim Matheos on the new album, entitled”Blood”. In the past such collaboration might seem like a crazy fantasy for all progsters worldwide, but now it’s just a fascinating event. Both Matheos and Moore have proved already that they totally deserve to be on the top of the prog scene. So, if anyone out there expects to hear a thousand notes per second or endless chords mixed together, oh well perhaps they should reconsider what they expect from music in general or just avoid listening to this album. Through the music “conspiracy” of these two geniuses one can easily realize that you don’t need to show off your technical skills or to use some formula in order to create mesmerizing music. All it takes is music to fill you with emotions and images.
\r\nIt’s psychedelic, dark, and atmospheric. The compositions are once again based on a minimalist style, the electronic elements are mostly based on a chill out/ambient style, the vocals are lost in space, a bit uncanny, in a way chaotic, a bit gloomy and in general enigmatic and mysterious just like the lyrics. There’s also a guest appearance by Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth) on the song “Stockholm” who creates an unbelievably stunning atmosphere.
\r\nA grandiose album, yet very strange and introversive. \r\n
