WASTELANDER - Wardrive
WASTELANDER - Wardrive
\r\nImagine an apocalyptic landscape. A deserted, completely destroyed city after a nuclear holocaust. A morbid scene where the remains of humanity are wandering through ruins and debris of what once was the Metropolis of modern society. Some of them are still fighting for survival in a futureless world while others horribly mutated are aimlessly roaming the dark, dusty roads having lost all hope…If we had to put on a soundtrack to the above description this would surely be Wastelander’s music.
\r\nWardrive is a bombastic mixture of early Thrash and Black Metal with all the clichés that these genres have and the trio from Michigan seems to know the recipe for destruction very well: Celtic Frost’s crawling chaos, Darkthrone’s frozen obscurity, Sodom’s apocalyptic concept, Exodus’ boundless aggression and Motorhead’s dirty rock’n’roll sound all these given through an early punk-ish style.
\r\n Suffocating atmosphere, razorsharp flash ripping riffing, frantic drumming escorting you to the agonizing end, the bass is ripping the corroded ground being finally where it belongs, to the front, while Matt War’s rough vocals haunt the very last sane survivor reminding those of Tom G. Warrior and Angelripper’s.
\r\nThe songs last about 4 minutes and they succeed in causing endless headbanging and simply Kick ass!!! The production reminds me of times old giving the tracks the character and the sound they need while some samples of screaming air raid sirens and emergency warning announcements simply complete the nightmare.
\r\nOk, Wastelander are not reinventing the wheel. That’s not their purpose anyway. But they still got something that many other bands out there seem to lack.
\r\nThey sound honest.\r\n
