GORGASM - Kyle Christman

\r\n Gorgasm returns from its slumber only to butcher more anaware ears. We talked with Kyle to learn the latest of the us butchers....\r\n

\r\n

\r\n \r\n

\r\n

\r\n- Welcome to Metalzone.gr. Your first time on this page so, tell us about the recordings of your new butchering masterpiece and a short bio of the band.. \r\n

\r\n

\r\n \r\n

\r\n

\r\nKyle- Well as most know, the band started back in the early/mid 90s and had slight changes in the line up between each album, which in turn changed the sound slightly with each release as well. After Masticate was released, nothing was released until now aside from a promo with 2 songs. Me and Leski started jamming around and creating new ideas together and eventually added Anthony and Ryan into the mix and spawned Orgy Of Murder shortly after.
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n- What had been going on through the years the band was inactive and why did the band split up in the first place?\r\n

\r\n

\r\n \r\n

\r\n

\r\nKyle- Well, since I wasn’t around during the split up, I cant say exactly what happened, nor do I really want to get into that whole thing in detail. Lets just say things weren’t quite working out, and between differences and difficulties, it was time for a break and then a fresh start.
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n- Do you think all these changes were for the best? Cuz as it seems, the new music is a headsmasher! Also share some info on the production/mixing process. The sound is amazingly clear and heavy.\r\n

\r\n

\r\n \r\n

\r\n

\r\nKyle- Well its hard for me to answer that honestly because before joining the band(and still now) I always considered Gorgasm my favorite band. I loved its brutality, melodic passages, vocal arrangements etc. So its hard for me to hear the new album as a fan since I was there through the whole creation, and helped write it. I do love the material, and enjoy listening to it and playing it, as well as the old tunes. As for recording, we tracked everything at Studio One(Belle City Sound) and all of the engineering was done by Chris Djuricic, who recorded and mixed all of the previous albums. We tracked my drums on a Saturday, and what he had me do is play each song 4-5 times until he got my best takes and worked with them. The rest of the week was spent tracking guitars, bass, vox, and mixing. The entire process was a total of 9 days in the studio. For mastering we had Trevor Sadler at Mastermind finish it up, who also had previously done the work on earlier releases for the band.
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n- All the guys in Gorgasm are active in various projects as well. What are the priorities of the band? Have you set any goals?\r\n

\r\n

\r\n \r\n

\r\n

\r\nKyle- The priority is Gorgasm. Right now, I have put Human Filleted on hold. We(me, Ryan, Anthony, plus Aaron Maedge) are going to record the Sarcophagy album in a couple months…but it is already written. We just need to record and release it. Gorgasm takes full priority right now, and our main goal is to play some killer live shows and a month long Europe tour this year in support of the new album.
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n- To the album now: lyrical inspirations? Have you guys done any research on serial killers and such or is the gore theme just a fun outburst of "brutal poetry"?\r\n

\r\n

\r\n \r\n

\r\n

\r\nKyle- We just get a lot of inspiration from horror movies, the news, porn, etc. None of us actually study serial killers. Its just a release. A sick creative outlet. Many times we find ourselves laughing at how screwed up our ideas are…trust me…we have worse…some of it just doesn’t make it to paper. The words we use at times are just hilariously wrong. I always thought Gorgasm had a way with words. Im glad it continued, and the direction wasn’t changed. I personally hate when bands change their whole theme. But to each their own. We just like it sick and brutal I guess.
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n- Masticate to Dominate was a killer release. The new album pushes the boundaries further more. How do you feel regarding the band’s progression?
\r\nWell as I mentioned before I am a huge fan. So that’s a hard question to answer. I think all the old shit was killer. I cant even pick a favorite. All of it was good in its own way in my opinion. So the new album is a little different from the last, as all of them were. And I dig it. I think it just continues where it left off. Some added groove, but also some of the fastest parts on an album as well. Im just honored to be a part of it, honestly.
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n- What are Gorgasms influences? As a band and individually. Do you guys listen to all kinds of stuff and how do you filter your influences to come up with your material?\r\n

\r\n

\r\n \r\n

\r\n

\r\nKyle- We listen to all kinds of stuff, including classical. But we really try to not let other death metal influence us. We don’t want to sound like other bands…we just want to play what we hear in our heads. But, it would not sound like Gorgasm without Damian Leski. Sure we contribute and collaborate, and I helped a lot with this new material. But without him, it would not have the same sound.
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n- The death metal scene has been growing a lot in the last few years, especially in the underground division. Bands seem to pop up from every corner of the planet. What’s your opinion on today’s bdm scene? Have you picked up any new favs?\r\n

\r\n

\r\n \r\n

\r\n

\r\nKyle- Theres a flood of bands these days and its hard to keep track. I have definitely picked up some new stuff that is killer. But when in doubt, put in old school early 90s classicks!!!!
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n- Is there a tour planned to promote Orgy of Murder? Furthermore, any European dates on the way?\r\n

\r\n

\r\n \r\n

\r\n

\r\nKyle- We are currently working on a tour with Dirty and Weird music. Other headliners are Defeated Sanity and Amagortis, others TBA. Starts at MOD and ends at NRW, so, a solid month of Europe dates. Also we will play at CIM and Evansville Death Fest this year.
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n- What has been the response to the new release so far? Press, audience?\r\n

\r\n

\r\n \r\n

\r\n

\r\nKyle- As can be expected, there are some mixed reviews. But overall, id say from what he have seen, read, and hear from people, its overall a positive response. We are really happy with the feedback and reviews we have received at the moment. And it’s a great feeling when people are supporting the comeback and new line up strongly and positively.
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n- Allright, that’s it from me, I want to thank you for your time, the last words are yours..\r\n

\r\n

\r\n \r\n

\r\n

\r\nKyle- Just want to say thank you for your time and interest to hear from me, and Gorgasm. Thank you to everyone who picked up the album and the fans who supported, and waited so patiently for a new release. Hope to see you at a show/fest! Cant wait to give you all another killer release that pushes the boundaries even further!!! \r\n
