POWERWOLF - CHARLES GREYWOLF

Given the chance by the latest smoking release of the mighty POERWOLF Elena Mihailidou had the chance to interview Charles Greywolf, bassist of the infamous band that is preaching Metal Is Religion. Being truly faithful and religious in that manner we had no choice but to ask for the Blood Of The Saints….

\r\nMetalzone.gr:The Blood Of The Saints is the fourth album for Powerwolf, is it everything you hoped it would be? Tell us what’s new in Blood Of The Saints.
\r\nCharles:We are very satisfied with this record. During the songwriting process we keept the focus more on the songs and less at the orchestration and the Choirs. And it was a good decision. The previous record was more this over the top thing. It would not be interessting to repeat that, so we were going back to the basic.

\r\nMetalzone.gr:Powerwolf has been taking steps upwards with each new release they make and your live appearances have helped you grow quite a folloing and a good reputation, is this how you feel the impact you’ve been having as well?
\r\nCharles: Well, it was hard work, but of course it satisfied to see that the fanbase grows and that we are going to play better and bigger shows. Our fans are so fanatic, it’s unbelieveble. We always take a lot of time to speak to everyone after the shows and the credo is often that our fans are suprised that we are the same metalheads as they are...  That’s also a reason why our reputation is so good...

\r\nMetalzone.gr:You are maintaining a heavy metal sound in your releases, do you feel that you have created a new trend within the genres who have been best selling at the time you surfaced?
\r\nCharles: No. We only wanted to write some good metaltunes. We don’t think about, what could sell best. We write the songs in first line for ourselfs. Everything else would not work. We never chaged that idea and we never will change it.

\r\nMetalzone.gr: You have chosen to adapt a sort of role play with your make up and outfits, do you think it is part of what makes you stand out?
\r\nCharles: I think yes. We want to give the our fans a show they will not forget, and our make up, outfit and our stage setup is part of that. I allways loved band that brought a big show, as Iron Maiden. Everyone of us thinks like that and so we try to give our fans the same that we loved and still love: a huge show.

\r\nMetalzone.gr:With this album you have went on to creating your first video. Tell us about that experience, why has it taken you so long to decide to film a video. Will there be others to follow? Do you think it’s important for a band to have videos to promote their work? You seem to have made it without one so far…
\r\nCharles: Yeah. The “We drink your blood” Video.. That was a great experience. It took so long, because we wanted to do it right. We didn’t want to do some half things... And this time it felt right to do it. It was a hard to find a church where we could film this video, but it was it all worth. We found a good film Team, the right locations, and we had the right Idea for the story.
\r\nWith the video the people could better imagine what Powerwolf is about and for sure it’s good promotion. I think when the time is right; we will do the next one...

\r\nMetalzone.gr: You are about to go on the Power Of Metal tour tell us a few things about it. Any chances on making a stop in Greece with that?
\r\nCharles: It’s a great to team up with Sabaton, Grave Digger and Skull Fist. We have the chance to reach a lot of new fans. And for me it’s cool to tour with Grave Digger, cos they are with me my whole live, since I was at the age of 11 starting obey Heavy Metal... I’m sorry but Greece is not planed for this tour... Hope to play there soon.

\r\nMetalzone.gr: Considering your course you have had so far are you satisfied? Where do you see yourselves with your next release, already gathering ideas?
\r\nCharles: We’re not thinking about the next record. Now we wanna play shows and having fun. Powerwolf is a band that lives for the stage and now we wanna play as much shows as possible. Of course we hope to make the next step with the next record, but until the we wanna play...
