Cannibal Corpse @ Gagarin 205

\r\nMany metalheads were gathered outside the Gagarin 205 club. The time was 20.00 when i entered the club and i noticed a lot of people watching the merchandises and bying T-shirts,stickers,hats and other stuff. I ve noticed many new Cannibal Corpse T-shirts but also Dying Fetus and Obscura stuff.Inside  the club there was a lot of people now, talking , smoking and drinking and after some minutes the lights went off for the welcoming of -Evocation -!!\r\n

\r\n

\r\nThe band showed up , people started cheering and seconds later -Evocation- started their setlist and this great night for all of us that were in Gagarin that night.Although the band has not many fans and their sound was not the best sound they ever had , they managed to play a great setlist with multiple songs from many of their albums.Great guitars with a lot of atmosphere, pounding bass and drumming and Tomas Josefsson on vocals giving a nice performance. The band didnt play over an hour as they were the first of the night and there were four more bands to play. They ended their show without  problems , with people seemed happy but hungry for more!!\r\n

\r\n
\r\n-Evocation- showed to their fans and to any new listener that they are a big band , many years in the Swedish Death Metal scene and very well experienced to play live with great professionalism. But the truth is that only few asked for more beacuse now more  fans were taking over the front and getting ready for the  next band to play!!

\r\n
\r\nMore people now were entering the Gagarin 205 club and people inside the club was consuming beer and a lot of water for the fans that honoured the mosh pit by the sound of the previous band. Some few were bying t-shirts and now more people were aproaching the upper level. Suddenly - Obscura - entered the stage and the lights were turned off.\r\n

\r\n

\r\nPeople started to applause and the band started their show , playing  the -Anticosmic Overload - song!! You could see that the most people were staring at these German deathsters that, despite the fact that the sound was not very good , they shocked everybody with their extreme technical music and their insane ideas.
\r\n
\r\nGreat techincal riffs and fantastic leads , extreme bass by the new bassist -Jacob Schmidt -that replaced the main bassist of Obscura for the tour, amazing drumming by Hannes Grossman and nice vocals from Steffen Kummerer. The band played many songs from their two albums and completed a nice show without any problems besides the bad sound.\r\n

\r\n

\r\nMany people didnt know at all about -Obscura - and after that night there will be a lot of metalheads that are going to search for their albums. The truth is that everyone will realize after listening to the albums that these German deathsters are able to do miracles and everybody will hope that they will come again and the next time they will have better sound.

\r\nNext came Burnt by the Sun that can only grab your attention with their studio works. Thus it became with their live performance. Incredible energy and dynamic scenic presence from one primarily  hardcore band that however was full of metal fury (we do not forget that they  share the drummer with Municipal Waste).   Pits opened for   slammers and mosheads very fast and temperatures went up vertically, as also and the number of bruises of some of us.  Setlist included songs from all their discography and as expected their last work titled  Heart Of Darkness was honoured much more (when they played Dracula with glasses the whole venue became a mess!) .  Abrupt breaks in which the singer shouted really gave the sign for slaughter, while their general performance was exemplary and in moments particularly crushing! The audience welcomed them and they treated us with fury in the form of riffs that burned our minds. My complaint is the mediocre sound quality that continued during all the show. I would rather watch them in a smaller venue. We will be definitely waiting for them again.\r\n

\r\nNow what can I say about Dying Fetus?  The words sometimes really are unnecessary and those from the readers that have watched them live know really well what I am talking about. We witnessed the birth of brutality, therefore (does anyone remember this phrase?). Have you ever seen a spaghetti dish in a boat rolling through storm?  Thus precisely was the audience like and everyone was literally hanging from the band’s barbaric riffs. The composition as power trio has tied up much better from the last time we saw them in our country and the lack of second guitar does not influence their sound. The material of the new album (with the unacceptable cover, sorry!) attributes biggest in the concerts and in combination with the old school material it creates an impression of stomping violence and particularly in breaks that the band leaves space in the guitar for some  hardcore riff that goes off as a bomb. The best performances combined with  correspondence from the audience surely were: One Shot, One KillKill your MotherRape You DogGrotesque Impalement ( slightly changed) and of course  Praise The Lord that made us all feel like we’ve been hit by a monster truck! Each time they come they get better, therefore I believe that further comments are useless. Pure violence in the form of crushing breakdowns!\r\n

\r\n
\r\nAfter the extreme Dying Fetus experience , everyone was ready for the last band of the night. Its the fifth show of Cannibal Corpse in Athens but there are many people today in Gagarin that came to see these legendary deathsters for the first time!
\r\nThe crowd is of course bigger than their first shows back in 1998 in Woodstock club that was about 60-70 people. Now Gagarin 205 club is almost full, with less people in the upper floor , and the crowd is yelling their name like crazy!!
\r\n
\r\nAfter some minutes, Cannibal Corpse entered the stage and people started cheering and reaching the front. The show started with the slow riffs of - Evisceration Plague - and everyone started headbanging in a slow torturing way.The mosh pit fanatics wanted something faster and so Cannibal Corpse without taking a break started playing the -Time to Kill- is now - track and people started mosh pits ,yelling - Kiiiiiiillllllllll!!!! The bad news are that the sound was terrible and in the first minutes of the second song Paul Mazurkiewicz started showing that he has some kind of problem. After the second song the band seemed to having monitor problems and so they stopped the show for about 5 minutes to fix it, something that the crowd didnt liked it at all. Pat ’O Brien tried also to fix his sound and you could see in their faces that they had major problems fixing the sound.\r\n

\r\nGeorge Fisher started speaking to the crowd and after some minutes the band continued the show with the -Disfigured- song.People didnt seemed to care about the bad sound and the fans enjoyed the band playing old songs like - I Cum Blood - , -Vomit the Soul-,-Skull full of Maggots - and -Hammer Smashed Face- but also new ones like - Shattered their Bones-,
\r\n-Evidence in the Furnace- and -Priests of Sodom -. Despite the terrible sound the band gave their best possible performance and managed to complete a nice show with a lot of sound problems. Alex Webster gave his extreme bass lessons with unstopable headbanging and people yelling his name, Rob Barett and Pat ’O Brien stayed in their corners and they both delivered well-played riffs and nice leads, Paul Mazurkiewitz  gave his best and he managed to complete a difficult show ,with a lot of problems in his monitors and not even one mistake.Absolute perfect drumming and professionalism at great levels. George Fisher unleashed his brutal voice without having problems and chalenged everyone to follow him in his furious headbanging. The band finished the show with the - Stripped , Raped and Strangled - song and everyone seemed happy. Alex Webster stayed at the end to shake hands and take photos with the fans.

\r\nIt was a great night , with a lot of good bands and many people left satisfied by the merchandise.People  bought a lot of
\r\nT-shirts, Hats , wristbands ,cds  and a lot of beer!!!! The only bad things was the problems with the sound and only Dying Fetus managed to have good sound and they succeed it by doing a quick soundcheck one minute before they started their show. You could see the dissapointed faces of Cannibal Corpse having sound problems and for me its the first time i see George Fisher in a bad mood. But its truth that it was the first time also that i see a Cannibal Corpse show with bad sound and my mood also was not the best.Having sound problems as a headliner band can make you angry , dissapointed and can effect your mood as well.Despite the fact that it was a difficult night for the musicians , the fans seemed to enjoyed the whole show and you could see in their faces that they all wanted more!!
