END OF GREEN - High Hopes In Low Places
END OF GREEN - High Hopes In Low Places
\r\nDarkness seems to dwell on every note of the new End Of Green album, it couldn’t be otherwise when we’re referring to one of the most important German Gothic Metal bands. Their new album “High Hopes in Low Places” besides the tragically ironic but fully true title it overflows with all the elements that an album of such genre demands in order to sound…unpleasant.
\r\nCursed successor of the desperately exceptional “The Sick’s Sense” of 2008 “High Hopes..” looks its predecessor straight in its sunken eyes, feeding from its poison that doesn’t seem to kill it. In fact is making it stronger.
\r\nIn this release End Of Green are tempting us, de-composing 10 dark metal songs that is sure to haunt the oncoming frozen winter nights. Sometimes surprisingly groovy on songs like “Goodnight Insomnia”, “High hopes..” και “Under The Sway” (that could asily be a song composed by The 69 Eyes!) and other times desperately gloomy giving out that haunting feeling on songs like “Tie Me a Rope… While You’re Calling My Name” and “Starlight” they’re gradually weaving a bizarre yet familiar shadow that’s protectively wrapped around you forcing you to feel, not just listen to Michelle Darkness’s desperate voice singing about your very own anxieties, mourning for your own fears until he finally dares to lift the well preserved veil of reality daring you to look behind it with a grinning look on his face. As for you, after having taken a glimpse to all those things that should not be seen and having realized the meaning of the sad-but-true lyrics, you’re left with a twisted sense of fake redemption, after all you managed to escape the nightmare, so you’re truly astonished as you glance at your fingertip pushing “repeat”.
