Erevos - Descensus Ad Inferos

Erevos is a band whose material I never had the chance of listening before. With ultimate curiosity, I put DESCENSUS AD INFEROS on, only to discover that the band re-discovers the music of the recent past. Talking about the late 90’s..I had read a review before but I came to the conclusion it did not quite fit my own final opinion. Let’s see...

\r\n These guy honor the more melodic side of black metal. The one we got to know of in the last years of the past millenium. Bands like Hecate Enthroned came to my mind. Melodic leads, a more classic-metal approach when it comes to composition and atmospheres drowned in keyboards. And all that given through a crystal clear production and a mainstream sound. Of course I am not implying anything negative when I say "mainstream" though I’m quite sure that purist fans of the genre may keep themselves back from even giving a second listen. All in terms of the "trve"....Some death metal elements are here too(see Kerveros) but the majority of the feeling lurks in the black side of metal. What I’d change, just a bit, is the aggression that floats out of the speakers. Not that it lacks it, I just feel more complete when their more brutal part comes forth.

\r\n Their songs are enriched with the so called greek black metal touch. The melodies, the atmosphere, everything indicates that Erevos are a part of the greek black metal scene. By all means, I don’t mean anything’s wrong with it! DESCENSUS AD INFEROS is alive and powerful, it shows there’s potential in the band, especially if they speed things up and give some extra raw power to their tunes. Other than that, the greek scene fans(yes, there is such a thing!) will find what they love in the Erevos’ debut. Be sure not to miss it out!
