SYMPATHY - Anagogic Tyranny

SYMPATHY - Anagogic Tyranny

What we have here is the third release of the Canadian prog deathsters Sympathy (previously released are "Invocation" (2002) and "Arcane Path" (2004). Anagogic Tyranny is a quite good progressive death metal album with many black metal and thrash elements. The compositions are quite complicated and technical indeed but they are not boring, in contrary to other bands of the genre, they seem to have a specific structure something that saves them from being over-complicated and therefore tiring. Many symphonic parts are sprinkled through-out making the result even more interesting. Derek James’s vocals are nothing more than classic death metal growls while the production, not the best you’ve ever heard, helps enough to boost not only the compositions but also the band’s technical playing.
\r\nParticipations of Jeff Lewis (Abolishment of Hate, Mortification) on the guitar and Jim Austin (Into Eternity) on the drums makes this one even more interesting for the fans of the genre.
\r\nIn conclusion, without offering something new to the audience, Anagogic Tyranny is a quite interesting release for all prog deathsters out there.
