WHIPLASH - Unborn Again

WHIPLASH - Unborn Again

\r\nWhat should I write about Whiplash? It’s been 15 years since I listened to the awesome “Power and Pain” and “Ticket to Mayhem” for the first time and since then my relationship with that band became unique. I used to support Whiplash and tried many times to convince fellow Thrashers to give them a shot (you see Whiplash never were of the famous Thrash metal bands, not even among Thrashers) so when I heard the news about the reunion (though only Tony Portaro remains from the original line-up) and the release of “Unborn Again” I was excited, my excitement grew when I saw the awesome cover from the well known Thrash artist Ed Repka, so I was expecting something at least fantastic…but my expectations begun to fall apart when I started listening to the cd.
\r\nIt’s not that “Unborn Again” is a mediocre album, lacking ideas or inspiration, it’s just not what I was expecting. It’s definitely a Thrash album full of all these elements that made Whiplash “popular” in the underground. Here you will listen to some really heavy riffing (“Snuff”, “Feeding Frenzy”), blasting rhythm section (“Swallow The Slaughter”), classic thrash dynamites with the one and only Frank Blackfire soloing (“Pitbulls in the Playground”),as well as some Montrose cover (“I’ve Got The Fire”) on the other hand there are some songs like “Firewater” and “Hook In Mouth” that really spoil the whole picture since I don’t think they match with the whole Thrash feeling that Whiplash try to give out.
\r\nHonestly, I don’t know what’s wrong with is album all I know is that it’s neither  the comeback album I was expecting from Whiplash nor a thrash album I would definitely recommend to someone. Anyway, those interested give it a chance.\r\n
