Zandem - The 3 Eras

Zandem - The 3 Eras

Fact is that the last few years the Greek Hard Rock/Sleeze scene has something really serious to say. Most Greek bands of the genre have only good releases to offer and they managed to look all the foreign “rivals” straight in the eyes. Unfortunately Zandem are not one of these bands.
\r\nListening to the album, with the hilarious photocopied artwork, I had the impression that I was somewhere between the late 70’s and early 80’s. Quite a shock I must say..
\r\nWhat Zandem are trying to play is rooted more to the vintage 70’s hard rock sound than to the late 80’s where was at its peak. If I could say something about their sound that would be that they remind me of the old Y&T though the compositions are far from being compared to the above mentioned band.
\r\nIs not that we are talking about totally uninspired hard rock..there are still some good ideas but I think that they lack due to the absolutely shitty production (the annoying drum machine on the last tracks has by far the worst sound I ever heard) Zandem are basically a project of Babis Kaisas and SHY’s ex-drummer Alan Kelly. This line-up forms the band’s first era. Later on Kelly is replaced by Dave Deelay while in the third era Babis is taking over. Every era is represented by 3 songs with the vocals recorded by Allan Kelly, Dave Deeley and Babis Kaisas.
\r\nI really don’t know weather the average compositions are due to the unstable line-up or something else but I think that a good lead singer along with more effort in composing the songs will give them what they miss.
