HALFORD - Rob Halford

On Friday October 8th Kostas Purevil Kyriakakis and Hellena Mihaildiou interviewed Rob Halford on Greece’s Metalzone radio show. The Metal God talked about his freshly released album IV: Made Of Metal. As describes it is a rather obvious name but it seemed to suit right a release by HALFORD given the name his fans aplie to him The Metal God. He has had a very warm welcome to this release and he is very grateful for than and he feels encouraged to carry on. While composing Made Of Metal he tried to keep his writing pure, simple and direct. Something that would in his opinion be able to captivate his soul. He also wanted it to be uplifting, straightforward, something that makes you feel strong and have a good time as opposed to other genres of dark metal which are being released nowadays.

\r\nAs Rob Halford explains, feeling and captivating and communicating it is what comes first when writing music and all technicalities come second. As he pointed out too much technicality is like adding too much spice to the Greek food “mousaka” the tastes get ruined!

\r\nOn accounts to his own record label after having explained that the major labels are necessary for the survival and support of big bands which need funding to continue releasing material and putting out their live shows his own effort is an independent, small record label which will be the step for small bands to get a break. It is the best feeling in the world to have everything run by you as a solo artist and it’s most satisfying as he admits. The aim of creating his label is to keep himself connected to the metal scene for as long as he can and also to help new bands. At the moment he is listening to all kinds of bands who submit their music and we’ll have a lot more to see as time emerges.
\r\n
\r\nAs for the way he sees band develop nowadays he thinks that it doesn’t matter if the future does hold great bands to be successors of Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Metallica etc as long as there are bands around and the scene carries on. Rob Halford also admits that one of the most important things in the metal scene is to be consistent in your writing, performing and the cruelest to sustain success. This is why in his opinion, the first releases of bands are better as they have nothing to prove to anyone and they act more freely in their creation process. As they continue they have to write up to their previous successes and keep their label happy with their profits as it is after all a business. This is one of the reasons he created his own label to be able to help new bands develop the best way they can.

\r\nNext year Priest are returning to Greece but so far there are no solid plans for Halford.
