UNCLEANSED - Darrell White

Texas brutality masters\r\nUNCLEANSED release their debut and bring tears of joy to every sick\r\nfreak out there. This is death metal the way it is meant to be! We\r\ntook the chance and spoke with Darrell(drums) about their plans.\r\nIndulge!\r\n

\r\nMetalzone.gr: \r\nFirstly, congratulations on your album. One hell of a good job!\r\nHow’s the response so far? \r\n

\r\n

\r\n Darrell: Well, thanks for the\r\nsupport, and we really appreciate your interest in what we do. The\r\nresponse has been great! All who have been involved with the album\r\nare thrilled at the outcome and the initial exposure and feedback\r\nhave been very positive. \r\n

\r\n

\r\nMetalzone.gr: \r\nYou successfully combine brutal with classic death metal, which is\r\nrare nowadays not only as a subgenre but also as a result. Which\r\nbands do you consider to be your major influences and what is your\r\nopinion on today’s death metal scene?\r\n

\r\n

\r\n Darrell: First of all, it’s great\r\nthat you have noticed the rarity of a ‘classic’ blend of\r\nextreme/dark music. It seems to be rare in the modern world of death\r\nmetal. Uncleansed gravitates towards the traditional raw emotion that\r\nis the essence of what founded dark music in the first place. It’s\r\na little difficult to list major influences. All of us have such a\r\nwide range of bands and art that influence us individually: early\r\nthrash, black metal, doom, early grindcore, modern technical…at the\r\nend of the day, it seems a little ridiculous at how many people have\r\ncreated all of these genres and sub-genres. We try to stray away from\r\nthat and just write dark, emotional and energetic music. But, just\r\nfor the sake of naming names, it goes back years and years. From\r\nBlack Sabbath to early Slayer to all of the obvious modern and early\r\ninfluences in our music: Incantation, Terrorizer, Dark Angel, Bolt\r\nThrower, Angel Corpse, Grave, Coroner, Napalm Death, Pestilence,\r\nSuffocation, Celtic Frost, Aeternus, Morbid Angel, Malevolent\r\nCreation, Deicide, Brutality, Kreator…of course there are many\r\nother genres and individuals that have shaped us in some way as\r\nwell…as far as today’s scene, well, it is definitely interesting.\r\nLet’s just say that Uncleansed collectively feels that we are all\r\nin it for the same reason. We love what we do, we love the people\r\nthat appreciate our music, and, well what more can you ask for?\r\n

\r\nMetalzone.gr: \r\nAre there any planned tours for supporting "Domination Of The\r\nFaithful" or are you mostly focused on local gigs?\r\n

\r\n

\r\n Darrell: There are no current tour\r\nplans booked. However, we are currently discussing several fests,\r\nshow and tour possibilities across the UK and most of Europe. Local\r\nshows (Texas) will be minimal. Uncleansed has every intention of\r\nbeing ‘worldwide’.\r\n

\r\n

\r\nMetalzone.gr: \r\nWhat kind of expectations do you have from your first release? Is\r\nthis band a hobby you love or are you planning on expanding its name\r\nfurther?\r\n

\r\n

\r\n Darrell: The expectations for the\r\nfirst release are to install our presence in as many people’s minds\r\naround the world as possible. It’s hard to list it as a hobby when\r\nwe put everything we have as human beings into creating and producing\r\nmusic that we feel needs to be out there. Uncleansed is unique in the\r\nsense that we all appreciate, admire and respect one another as\r\nmusicians and most importantly as friendships that go back decades\r\nfor some of us.\r\n

\r\nMetalzone.gr: \r\nLyrically, you deal with anti-religious themes. How important is this\r\nto your artistic expression? What’s your view on religious influence\r\non the masses today?
\r\n\r\n

\r\n

\r\nDarrell: It’s very important. Not\r\nto say that everything Uncleansed will ever do will stand by the same\r\nguidelines, but every track on “Domination of the Faithful” is a\r\nslab of raw emotion resting on a butchers table. It is the result of\r\nthe world we live in. We all feel that religion is the greatest\r\ncontradiction that man has ever created. Personally, I have seen and\r\nexperienced the influence of religion around the world first hand.\r\nPeople born into a life, brainwashed and never given the chance and\r\ngift of free will. It is tragic to say the least…I could go on and\r\non about it…\r\n

\r\n

\r\nMetalzone.gr: \r\nShawn is also busy with Insidious Decrepancy and Viral Load, is this\r\na set back on the band’s schedule or does it work like a "link"\r\nbetween bands? Darrel is also in Viral Load. how do you manage?\r\n

\r\n

\r\n Darrell: Fortunately, we are able to\r\nmake it work. All of our projects are equal and necessary and we\r\nstand by that. Viral Load is new to playing shows with the lineup,\r\nShawn has completed several tours supporting the new Insidious and\r\nUncleansed is ready to begin performing to support the release.\r\n

\r\n

\r\nMetalzone.gr: \r\nBack to the music part. The album is quite dark and violent with lots\r\nof interesting turns and twists. Who is the main songwriter and how\r\nis the songwriting process being held?\r\n

\r\n

\r\n Darrell: Yes it is quite dark and\r\nviolent, and it represents our wide range of musical interests while\r\nmaintaining an overall nostalgic feel. There is no main songwriter.\r\nDave, Jim and myself write the majority of the music. Jim and I\r\nformed the band and wrote the very first song which is the title\r\ntrack of the album. If I remember correctly we basically wrote it\r\nfrom beginning to end…everything following was a group effort. When\r\nwe write it is a rollercoaster ride…very spontaneous. We all like\r\nto challenge one another and look forward to each other’s feed back\r\nwhen writing. Like I said earlier, we have all been friends for years\r\nand are past the point of ‘egos’ and stubbornness. Uncleansed is\r\nand always will be a group effort.\r\n

\r\nMetalzone.gr: \r\nAre there any plans for a secong release anytime soon?\r\n

\r\n

\r\n Darrell: Yes there are. We have new\r\ntracks near completion and will be released next year!\r\n

\r\n
