Do you feel that you are missing the combination Speed music with raw production and thrash riffing? Well don‘t be disappointed I got something here just for you.
What? A review for Iron Man’s “Black Night” in 2010? Yes indeed, since a couple of weeks ago this remastered release of the album on Shadow Kingdom Records reached me, so I considered a great opportunity to write down some thing about this great band from Maryland.
\r\nIRON MAIDEN.Two words which are causing awe to every metalhead who has respect for the roots of his beloved music. IRON MAIDEN in Greek refers to the medieval torture device, which nowadays still "tortures" our ears. Fifteenth album for the beloved veteran British, which even if it is rumoured to be their last one, ou can’t describe it as "least".
\r\nThey say “talk is cheap” and the same goes to writing as well, so I’m gonna make things clear. The new Sister Sin album KICKS SOME GODAMN ASS!! We’re not talking about a very good album this is far more than that. It’s the definition of the term Heavy Metal in 2010!! The Swedish Hard/Heavy metallers have proven their worth and if with their debut “Switchblade Serenades” two years ago, managed to grab us by the neck, with this one they easily earn the right to be one of the best new bands serving the genre.
\r\nDespite the fact that I am not the biggest fan of compilation alike releases, due to the fact that most of those releases focus on a individual genre either most of the tracks can be described as “fillers”, Blower Records made me reconsider my opinion.
\r\nEra Nova was a very pleasant surprise to me, as it is a really inspired new band. They come from France, they were formed on 2002, they released the demo "Sin Eater" on 2005, and their debut album, “Children of Alcyone”, was released a few months ago.
\r\nNew band, with no any fresh ideas, though. Without being anything special, Black Horizon’s songs, which are pure Heavy Metal, are interesting. The vocals need some improvement, a different approach on the production should add more points as the songs sound a bit weak, yet they are not weak at all, generally, though, it’s a piece of work that it’s not indifferent at all, composing wise.
\r\nAttempting to categorize this band musically, wouldn ‘t do it justice. Basically, they play Heave Power, but they also combine their Thrash Power and Modern Metal influences as well and that makes their music so interesting, actually. They are using elemnts from various music genres, so any “label” would be really pretty limiting.
I am aware that Poland is a force to reckon when it comes to death metal (If you are already familiar with bands like Vader, you know exactly what I am talking about!) but for Thrash metal? I am afraid things are different. Listening to Virgin Snatch’s fourth album I realized why Poland and Thrash metal, judging from “Act of Grace”, are two irrelevant words.
Immolith, are a black metal band from U.S.A, which recently released their first EP, containing three compositions, entitled Hymns to the Countess. It is a rather mediocre effort.
